Donna M. King

Donna M. King, of Minnesota City, MN, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family on her 88th birthday, Sunday, April 14, 2024. Her unwavering strength and grace shone through as she fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Donna was born on April 14, 1936, in Trempealeau, WI, to Wilfred and Emma (Rotering) Hundt, and was a graduate of Cotter High School and the Winona Business College.  She was united in marriage with James King on October 7, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona, and he preceded her in death on February 20, 2017.

Donna dedicated many years of service as a clerk at various grocery stores in Winona, including Broadway Super Saver, Warehouse Market, and Econo Foods. Additionally, she enjoyed being an AVON representative for over 30 years, and volunteering at Sauer Memorial Home for 35 years.

One of Donna's greatest joys in life was her family. She found immense happiness in spending time with her grandchildren, Marcus and Emily, enjoying many summers of adventure and fun.

Donna's Catholic faith held a central place in her life, and she had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Minnesota City, actively participating in the church choir and their women's groups, and she was a recipient of the Bishop’s Medal for her dedication to St. Paul’s Parish. Following the church's closure, Donna became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona.

Donna had a passion for collecting Santa figurines and nativity scenes, and she and Jim enjoyed camping for many years.

In the embrace of eternal peace, Donna is reunited with her husband Jim; infant son, Steven; her parents; brothers: Donald Hundt and Marvin Hundt; and a brother-in-law, Robert Brandes.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will forever be cherished by her family members: her daughter, Kathy (Mark) Borck; grandchildren: Marcus (Morgan) Borck and Emily Borck; sisters: Marion Brandes, Rita Bublitz, and Rosemary (Richard) Franzen; sisters-in-law: Marguerite Hundt and Mary Lou Hundt; numerous nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend, Jean Lambert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM on Friday, April 19, 2024, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Minnesota City.   The Reverend Russell Scepaniak will officiate.  Donna will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona.

Visitation will be held from 4 PM until 7 PM on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona, where the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held at 7 PM.   Visitation will also be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Minnesota City, on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 10 AM until the time of the Mass.

Pallbearers will be: Marcus Borck, Scott Brandes, Todd Hundt, Tim Flanagan, Steve Thicke, and Tom Hundt.  Mark Borck will serve as the honorary pallbearer.

A memorial is being arranged.

Donna’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Winona Health Hospice for the wonderful and loving care given to Donna and her family, and to Donna’s sister, Rita, and sister-in-law, Marguerite, for their care to Donna throughout her cancer journey.
