Dennis M. Ebertowski, 79, of Minnesota City, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on January 18, 1945, in Winona to Zigmund and Florence (Kujak) Ebertowski and was a 1963 graduate of Cotter High School. In 1967, he graduated from Dunwoody where he studied carpentry. In 1967, Dennis was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served in South Korea until 1969. He was a member of the American Legion.
Dennis was united in marriage with Joan L. Anderson on November 26, 1971, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona. Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage.
Dennis was employed by Wilmar Larson (in construction) from 1969 until 1984 and then started Ebertowski Construction, working for an additional 38 years. He worked until he was 77 years old. He also used his skills at St. Paul’s Church in Minnesota City where he was a member. Dennis never had to advertise for his construction company, keeping busy simply by word of mouth. His reputation of honesty, fairness, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and professionalism was well known in the community. His motto was, “Measure twice and cut once BUT only after a lot of thought.” Dennis loved his career of building and remodeling homes.
He will be remembered for his love of volleyball with family and friends, Ping pong, which he taught both his daughters at an early age, and which became a family tradition on every holiday, golfing with his brother-in-law Charlie, and with his dear friends, Bob, Tom, and John, and bowling at the Winona Athletic Club. He enjoyed fishing on the river with his brother Ray, his son-in-law, Steve, and his grandsons, Ben and Jack. Dennis caught his excitement for travel in South Korea and traveled to 45 countries and 6 continents over his lifetime. The only continent that Dennis didn’t travel to was Antarctica.
Dennis was extremely proud of his family and cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He lovingly watched his grandchildren at their school functions and sporting events.
Dennis is lovingly survived by his wife, Joan Ebertowski; his children: Jill (Steve) Johnson, and Karin Morris; 4 grandchildren: Ben, Amelia, Claire, and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents: Zigmund and Florence Ebertowski; brother and sister-in-law: Ray and Jackie Ebertowski; brothers-in law: Kurt Kuestermeyer and Charlie Gilbert; and a nephew, Paul Ebertowski.
Visitation will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home, 376 E. Sarnia St., Winona, with a prayer and remembrance service at 6:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Fr. Russell Scepaniak will officiate.
Dennis will be laid to rest at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Minnesota City where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors.
