David H. Meyer, age 80, of Wilson, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Lake Winona Manor.
He was born on October 7, 1937, in Winona, to Henry F. and Alice M. (Lanz) Meyer. He graduated from Winona Senior High School, and also attended classes at the Winona Vo-Tech College.
David was a crop and beef farmer, did professional harvesting, and drove buses. He was a life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilson, where he held almost every office, including serving as the caretaker of the church cemetery for many years. David was also a charter member and served on the Wilson Fire Department for over 30 years.
David is survived by his siblings: Ardell Doering, Sacramento, CA; Eugene (Sheri) Meyer, Wilson; and Carol Lynn (Lyle) Ziemann, St. Louis, MO; uncle: Raymond (Phyllis) Lanz, Winona; his beloved nieces and nephews: Elizabeth (William Ecke) Doering, William (Malani) Doering, Adam (Leslie) Meyer, Jorgina Semling, Joseph Meyer, Andrew (Jen) Meyer, Nicki Klein, Michael (Samantha) Meyer, Jesse (Katie) Meyer, Michael Ziemann, and Matthew (Abbie) Ziemann; as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law: William Doering.
Visitation will be held from 6 PM until 8 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM on Monday, January 15, 2018, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilson. The Reverend Anthony Straseske will officiate.
David will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Jorgina Semling, Joseph Meyer, Andrew Meyer, Nicki Klein, Michael Meyer, and Jesse Meyer. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Elizabeth Doering, William Doering, Adam Meyer, Michael Ziemann, and Matthew Ziemann.
It is respectfully suggested that memorials be directed to Cancer Research at Mayo Clinic, in honor of David’s fight and survival of cancer since 1995.
