Carl Zaborowski, Jr.

Carl R. Zaborowski, Jr., age 88, of Winona, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018, at his home.

He was born on September 16, 1929, in Dexterville, WI, to Carl and Rose (Stolpa) Zaborowski, Sr., and was married to Irene Gall for the last 63 years.

Carl honorably served his country with the United States Army.  After graduating from Cotter High School in 1947, Carl was drafted and played for the Chicago White Sox organization. He was employed in the maintenance department of Winona State University for over 20 years, prior to his retirement.

He was a member of St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, and also of the Minnesota State High School League, where for over 40 years he served as an umpire for softball and baseball.  He will be remembered for his love to bowl, hunt, and fish - he even had the chance to go fishing the day before he died.  Carl was a sports nut who loved watching the Vikings, Twins, and Timberwolves, but his favorite sporting events were when he could watch his grandsons play basketball and baseball.

Carl is lovingly survived by his wife, Irene; children: Greg (Teresa), Jim (Angie), David (Barb), and Mary; grandchildren: Zachary, Brandon, Matthew, Melissa, and Sean; great-grandchildren: David, Dylan, Carter, Devin, Brinley, Beckette and Baelyn; sister: Florence Ronnenberg; sister-in-law: Ella Schelske; brothers-in-law: Norman, Marvin, and Elmer Gall; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings: Delores, Virginia, LaVerne, and Clarence.

Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the funeral service at 12 Noon on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.  The Reverend Richard A. Moore will officiate.  Following the service, a luncheon and reception will be held at the Winona Eagle’s Club.
