Boyd G. Monroe, age 101, of Winona, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
He was born on June 26, 1919, in Lake Preston, SD, to Alex and Marie (Stabenow) Monroe, and married the love of his life, Kathryn Schuminski in 1945 in St. Paul, MN. Kathryn preceded him in death on May 16, 2003.
Boyd honorably served his country with the 34th Red Bull Division of the United States Army and was stationed overseas during World War II. Upon returning to the states and marrying Kathryn, he worked for the Greyhound Bus Lines as a driver, retiring in 1981. Boyd and Kathryn enjoyed traveling throughout the US, canoeing, fishing, feeding birds, and joining their friends for breakfast at local restaurants.
Boyd was proud of our country and took great pride in flying our flag. He will be missed by those that love him.
Boyd’s daughters are Carol Klaras (2020), Peggy Monroe, Karen Jelcic and Robin Zima (Timothy). Grandchildren Melissa Pace (John 2019), Tessa Christopherson, Greg Bergwick (Jamie), Luke Pederson, Justin Harriman (2020), Jacob Harriman (Christy), Joe Ziegler, Carol Monroe (Rob), Rob Zima, Danielle Zima (Mary) and 8 great-grandchildren.
There will be a private family graveside service held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona on Friday February 5th, 2021. The American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors.
