Anthony F. Katula, Jr., age 95, of Winona, formerly of Bluff Siding, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Benedictine – St. Anne in Winona.
He was born on October 12, 1925, in Winona, to Anthony and Mary (Cierzan) Katula, Sr., and honorably served his country with the United States Navy.
On July 24, 1952, he was united in marriage with Shirley Leger at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona, and they enjoyed 69 years together living in Bluff Siding and Winona.
Tony was employed with the Archer Daniels Midland Company of Winona for many years until his retirement, and he was a member of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka.
Tony loved being outdoors where he enjoyed fishing, gardening, puttering in his yard, and hunting deer, duck, and rattlesnakes. He will be remembered for making the best canned pickles, his firm handshake, how he gave the best hugs, and for his strong Christian faith. His family knew that they were always his first priority, and he will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.
Tony is lovingly survived by his wife, Shirley; children: Sharon Katula, Tony (Sue) Katula, Jean (late Wayne) Henderson, Ray (Lisa) Katula, Rich (late Irene) Katula, and Dan Katula; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Bill (Sue) Katula and Chester Katula; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, James Lancaster; son-in-law: Wayne Henderson; daughter-in-law: Irene Katula; sisters: Audrey Bronk, Mary Kamrowski, and Esther Katula; brothers: Frank Katula and Joe Katula; brothers-in-law: James Bronk and Joe Kamrowski; and sisters-in-law: Sandra Katula, Ruth Katula, and Donna Katula.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon on Friday, August 13, 2021, at the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka. Tony will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, where the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 of Winona will provide military honors.
Pallbearers will be: Richard Katula, Cutter Henderson, Tanner Ostrander, John Bronk, Loren Katula, and Jeremy Katula.
