WHO WE ARE

We provide individualized funeral services designed to meet the needs of each family.

Leonard Watkowski started his funeral service in the east end of Winona in the early 1900s and operated the funeral home as the Watkowski Funeral Home.

Following Leonard's death in 1937, the operation of the funeral home was assumed by Leonard's children Joseph R. Watkowski and Henrietta P. Watkowski. In 1940, construction was completed on the Mankato Avenue building.

Joseph Watkowski retired in 1986, at which time he sold the funeral home. In 2001, John Mulyck, a Winona native, joined the staff of the funeral home as a licensed funeral director, and in April 2007, the funeral home was purchased by John and his wife, Cheryl.

In December 2016, the Mulycks acquired the business portion of the Martin-Myhre Funeral Home located on East Sarnia Street in Winona, and merged the two funeral homes, operating both from the Mankato Avenue location.

The Martin-Myhre-Mulyck Funeral Home is a continuation of the Breitlow Funeral Home which was established in Winona’s downtown business district in 1901. The Breitlows built the facility on East Sarnia Street in 1960, and continued operation of the funeral home until 1968, when the funeral home was purchased by Thomas A. Martin, who owned and operated the funeral home until 1986 when it was purchased by Wayne Myhre, who retired in 2016.

To address present and future facility needs, and to better meet the needs of the families they serve, the Mulycks purchased the funeral home property on East Sarnia Street from Wayne Myhre in June 2019 and completed extensive renovations of the interior and exterior of the building.

The Sarnia Street location offers ample off-street parking, complete handicap accessibility to all areas of the building, a large gathering space which can be divided, as well as a community room which can accommodate luncheons and overflow for services.

Due to the limitations of the Mankato Avenue building, the Mulycks made the difficult decision to close the Mankato Avenue location, and to operate completely from the Sarnia Street location.

The Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home has a long and proud reputation of offering caring, professional and personal services to families of all faiths in Winona and the surrounding communities.
