Richard F. Niemeyer, age 72, of Winona, MN, died on Friday, February 19, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI.
He was born on November 12, 1937, in Winona, MN, to Henry and Nellie (Rouse) Niemeyer. In 1978 he was united in marriage with Barbara Kulas in Winona, MN.
Richard honorably served his country with the United States Air Force and worked as a draftsman for Biesanz Stone. He was a member of the American Legion and Ducks Unlimited.
Richard loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and trap-shooter; he was also known as a great bowler. He enjoyed card parties with his co-workers, trips to the casino, and cheering for the Minnesota Twins, the Green Bay Packers, and Brett Favre.
He is survived by his wife, Barb Niemeyer, Winona, MN; son, Paul Niemeyer, Winona, MN; sister, Connie (Roy) Neitzke, Winona, MN; nieces and nephews, Brenda (Timothy) Neitzke-Pearcy and their daughter, Meredith; Kevin (Linda) Neitzke and their children, Heather, Zachary, Stephanie and Alexander; and Lori (Brian) Neitzke-Albrecht, and their children, Samuel and Nathan; many cousins; as well as other relatives and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.
Following the service, the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9 will provide full military honors outside of the funeral home.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, MN.
